Our Annual Alec Blackburn Seminar. Accident Investigation – Navigating The Legal Requirements

28 June, 2023

SOUTH AND WEST WALES SAFETY GROUP

In conjunction with

PINSENT MASONS LLP (SOLICITORS)

will be holding the annual

ALEC BLACKBURN SEMINAR

ACCIDENT INVESTIGATION –

NAVIGATING THE LEGAL REQUIREMENTS

Wednesday 28th June 2023

LIBERTY STADIUM
(aka Swansea.com Stadium)

Swansea SA1 2FA

This seminar will give practical advice on how to navigate the immediate period following an incident, together with an in-depth understanding of the powers of the regulators, including the right to take documents, interview witnesses and serve enforcement notices.

This should equip members with the tools and skills that are required to react appropriately to a serious incident, to understand when and how to trigger legal privilege; to conduct a comprehensive investigation and to convert those findings into a quality internal report. Advice will be given on essential issues such as managing HSE visits and requests for documents (including your organisation’s internal investigation report).

The day will end a mock PACE interview – role playing an HSE interview ‘under caution’.

The presenters are Phil Newton (associate solicitor) and Jon Cowlan (health and safety consultant), Pinsent Masons LLP (Solicitors).

Phil acts for large corporate businesses across a range of sectors including construction, energy and utilities, transport, real estate and digital business.

Jon is a primary contact for Pinsent Masons’ preventive health & safety services and is authorised to deliver IOSH approved training courses. His experience encompasses strategic safety management, training, due diligence, CDM/construction, project safety and accident investigation.

Pinsent Masons has a leading Health, Safety and Regulatory Risk Team, whose focus is on legal preventative measures. They are leaders in the field when it comes to advising in the aftermath of incidents.
