Our Annual Awards Application - South and West Wales Safety Group

Our Awards

Our Annual Awards evening was held on Friday May 11th  at Parc y Scarlets and thanks to all who applied for an award and who attended the event.  

The awards were presented by the Lord Mayor of Swansea and Paul Kloss of the HSE and those who attended had an enjoyable evening and enhanced their organisations profile.

 We raised £900 for the Lord Mayors Charity Fund. Photographs of the evening can be viewed on ttp://

The certificates for outstanding safety performance were presented by Paul Kloss – acting Head of Field Operations for Wales and the Marches and the Lord Mayor presented certificates to all those who contributed to the Estate Programme; Employee of the year; Runners up and presented the Quiz Shield to T Richard Jones.

The micro company award went to Qualitek Engineering Ltd, the SME shield to Celtic Energy Limited and the Large Employers Shield to Swansea University.  

In addition, the Well Being Award went to Swansea Council and the Training Award went to Dwr Cymru-Welsh Water, who offered to sponsor the micro shield for next year. 

Contribution to the Estate Engagement Programme was recognised with certificates to, Healthy Working Wales, Swansea Council, Shared Services Vale of Glamorgan, Pembrokeshire County Council and 3M Gorseinon Plant. 

The Employee of the Year was awarded to Mr Ben Walford of Facility Services Group Ltd.


If you have never applied for an award then please consider doing so, it is open to all members of our group. The award can be valuable to your organisation in terms of publicity and commitment to safety and well being.

Safety Certificate

based on accident statistics.

Safety Shield

based on your company’s safety plans/programme three awards: one for large organisations with more than 250 employees, one for SMEs with 250 or fewer employees and one for microbusinesses with 20 or fewer employees.

President’s Shield

for excellence in Safety Training.

Well-being Award

for initiatives such as health promotion etc.

Chairman’s Shield

Recognises the Health and Safety Employee of the Year who is not employed as a safety or well being health professional. It rewards the employee who has contributed the most during 2017 to improve the health and safety culture within their organisation.

Apply for an Award

 N.B. In order to qualify for the Safety Shield, President’s Shield or Well-being Award, you must also apply for the Safety Certificate.

The independent adjudicating panel will not audit the information submitted in the application. Decisions rely and are based on the honesty and integrity of the participating organisations. Confidentiality is assured. Large quantities of information such as your annual report, safety policy, other reports, photographs etc are not required. If you engaged in partnership working or supported small organisations etc, brief details would be helpful as would brief details of a business case which led to your safety/health initiatives.

A maximum of one A4 for each answer is all that is required.

Please note only paid up members are eligible for our awards.

The independent adjudicating panel’s decision is final.  Awards will be presented by the HSE at the Annual Awards Ceremony 2019  – Date to be Confirmed.  Parc y Scarlets, Parc Pemberton, Llanelli. A free place at the Annual Awards Ceremony will be offered to each Safety Certificate winner. The Health and Safety Employee of the Year will be offered two free places.
