Real Risk – Perceived Risk and the effects on asbestos remedial works

Emma Willey will explore the vast difference between people’s perception of risk from asbestos containing products and what they do when asbestos is discovered in premises. The incident in Caerphilly a few years ago which closed a comprehensive school is a perfect example. The total cost of that was in the region of £1.5 million pounds with students being transported to various locations.  That led to further guidance from HSE in the “new” HG 248.

Emma Willey, ACS Ltd

With three decades in the Health & Safety industry, Emma is a key player in tackling Real Risk vs. Perceived Risk, especially in asbestos remedial works. As a founding Director of the ACS Group, her journey evolved from asbestos site technician to Managing Director in April 2023.

Holding a degree in Mathematics and Management from St Andrews University, Emma’s career spans every role in asbestos testing. Her hands-on approach includes sweating in enclosures, crawling through ducts in full PPE, and contributing significantly to residential, commercial, and industrial settings. Emma is also actively developing wellbeing management systems for the asbestos industry.

The ACS Group excels in scoping, tendering, project managing, and monitoring asbestos removal works of all scales. Emma’s wealth of experience positions her to provide practical guidance on navigating Real Risk and Perceived Risk.

This is being presented live by Emma at the location below and ACS have committed resources to do this for our group, we would like as many of our members that can attend in person to support this meeting.
